About MADAC

 

History

MADAC was founded in 2003, as a result of the NH Governor's Commision on Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention, Intervention, and Treatment.
MADAC is a Drug-Free Communities Support Program grant recipient from the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy. It is administered by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.

MISSION

Influence public awareness, policy, and funding to support alcohol, tobacco and other drug prevention, treatment, and recovery especially as it pertains to youth, in Cheshire County, NH.  By using comprehensive prevention activities, and the donated time of volunteers, we work to reduce youth and adult misuse of alcohol and drugs. We also build new partnerships with organizations to create healthier environments. MADAC also advocates for policy change and prevention funding, offers prevention trainings and college internships, and sponsors lots of fun events.

GOALS

Reduce substance use among youth and adults, and strengthen collaborative partnerships within communities.

We offer prevention activities and education to reduce youth and young adult alcohol and substance use; advocate for policy change and increased funding for prevention, treatment, and recovery; and offer prevention training, internships, and substance-free events all year.

With the donated time of volunteers, we are able to help reduce youth and adult use and abuse of alcohol and drugs. We continue to build new partnerships to create a healthy environment for our families. MADAC is a volunteer coalition with one paid staff. Our volunteers include students and educators, business owners, people in the medical field, members of law enforcement and local government, and employees from other local organizations.

We also:

  • Provide prevention education curriculum to schools and agencies.
  • Partner with the Drug Enforcement Administration on Prescription Drugs Take-Back events twice a year.
  • Organize substance free events and activities with and for youth.
  • Conduct retailer compliance checks to be sure retailers aren’t selling tobacco or alcohol to underage buyers.
  • Collaborate with several community partners to provide a wide range of prevention activities and education to raise awareness around alcohol and drug use and abuse.

MADAC also advocates for policy change and prevention funding, offers prevention training and college internships, and sponsors many substance-free fun events.

Sarah Johnston

Sarah has worked in the prevention, intervention, treatment, and recovery aspects of the Behavioral Health field in various capacities over many years. She holds a Bachelor's of Science in Addiction Studies from Springfield College. Sarah has been involved with MADAC since 2012 and became our Director in 2016.

 

Jeff Saari

Jeff Saari

Jeff Saari created Jeff Saari Coaching, LLC in 2008 and coaches many local small to medium sized organizations in the Keene, NH area on strategy, communication, teamwork, and leadership.  Jeff is the coach of the 2011 and 2012 Entrepreneurs of the Year recognized by The Hannah Grimes Business Center in Keene.  Jeff additionally is a life coach focusing on positive mindset, life and social skills.  He is a faculty-adjunct at Keene State College as well as the author of the recent book Zero Stress Leadership.  He has certifications in coaching, mindfulness mediation, mediation, Gentle Teaching and Structural Thinking and is an avid weightlifter, golfer, and drummer.  He lives in Keene with his wife and daughter.  His website is: www.zerostressleadership.com

Eliezer (Eli) Rivera

Sheriff Eli Rivera, is a retired Keene Police Lieutenant with more than 30 years of law enforcement experience. He has been an advocate for education,  having served on the Keene school as board chair and a board member.  His vision as a member of the MADAC Executive Committee is to provide additional insight and perspective to the issues law enforcement is facing regarding alcohol and substance misuse and to increase MADAC’s overall impact in the prevention of these issues for our youth and young adults.

CITY OF KEENE COUNCILMAN/EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEMBER

Terry Clark

Terry Clark is a Keene city councilor representing Ward 3, where he serves on the Finance, Organization and Personnel Committee and Cities For Climate Protection Committee. He chaired the city’s Ad Hoc Drug Addiction Solutions Task Force.

After retiring as a marketing agent representing firms in the tri-state region for the past 30 years, he is now a residential and commercial Realtor for the Masiello Group in Keene. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Public Affairs/Journalism from Keene State College, has training as a paralegal and is a Justice of the Peace.

He is a singer/songwriter with an interest in local history, lives in Keene with his wife, Dr. Skye Stephenson, and has four grown children and a grandson.

Meg Freeman

Meg has been with Southwestern since 2000. She has her Master’s Degree in Business Administration and has been working in the field of affordable housing and social services for 25 years. Meg has been involved with MADAC since 2011. She feels passionate about the work of MADAC and the coalition and is proud to volunteer her time. Meg and her partner own and operate a local retail consignment store, Penelope’s Consignment.
